The 2024 Election Report

The Mitchell Report

The 2024 Presidential Report My Perspective On The Most Significant Election Event In Americas History THE RESULTS ARE INThe 2024 U.S. presidential election was a high-stakes contest, drawing national and global attention. Incumbent Democratic President Joe Biden, running for a second term was replaced by Vice President Kamala Harris 107 days before the election as Biden faced continuing cognative issues. Harris was faced with going up against a formidable challenger and Republican candidate, former President Donald J Trump, who sought to reclaim the White House after his 2020 loss. In this report, I will offer to the best of my ability → my ← analysis/opinions on key issues, the challenges faced by both parties, the election results, post-election concerns for the new administration and some domestic and global reactions to the election results. At What PointPresident Joe Biden, who at the time of this election cycle is 81 years old, faced growing concerns within the Democratic Party about his age and whether he could energize younger voters. His approval ratings fluctuated, with many citing dissatisfaction over his poor handling of inflation, the economy, foreign policy and his ability to perform his presidential duties. Despite this, Biden managed to secure the Democratic nomination after facing minimal opposition from within the party. However, 107 days from election day, Biden was replaced by VP Harris as the party representative, due to a continuing decline is his cognition. Kamala Harris, the 49th vice president of the United States, has faced a range of political challenges and criticisms since taking office in January 2021. While her supporters point to her groundbreaking role as the first woman, first Black woman, and first South Asian-American to hold the office, critics have pointed to various aspects of her political career and her performance as vice president as significant failures or missteps. Some of the criticisms revolve around her handling of key issues, her public image, and her overall political approach. Nice Try KamalaSince the beginning of her political quest, Kamala Harris has been plagued by persistent public image problems, which have worsened over the course of her vice presidency. From her early days in office, she has faced questions about her leadership style, effectiveness, and her ability to manage key responsibilities. Critics often describe her as out of touch or lacking in political instincts. Her approval ratings have fluctuated dramatically, often dipping below 40%, which suggested that she has struggled to establish the political capital that would allow her to be a more effective vice president. There is a recurring narrative that Harris, while highly qualified and accomplished, has not lived up to expectations as a political leader. In particular, her demeanor and public speaking style have often been the subject of scrutiny. Many find her speeches and statements overly scripted and unconvincing, leading to a perception that she lacks authenticity in her communications. This has contributed to a broader narrative that she is politically inept or unable to take bold action when needed. Dispite all her → shortcomings ←  she was able to secure a repectful 38% of the vote totals (69,000,000+) and captured 226 Electorial Votes. Will she make another attempt in 2028?   Swipe ← ← to continue reading.

My Perspective On The Most Significant Election Event In Americas History THE CHALLENGER: The Trump PerspectiveTrump's first term, was characterized by strong economic growth (before the pandemic), tax cuts, and a tough stance on immigration, remains a significant part of his appeal to certain voters. However, his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, the January 6th insurrection, and his leadership style continue to be deeply divisive. As the 2024 election day approached, voters had to weigh his past record against the current state of the country and decide whether they want to return to Trump-era policies. Are you better now, than you were 4 years ago. Trump is a highly polarizing figure in the view of mainstream media and much of the press coverage focused on his legal issues, controversies, and divisive rhetoric. Both the right-wing and mainstream press focused on his every move. A sustained barrage of negative coverage tried to erode Trump's image and convince swing voters that a second Trump presidency would be too divisive for our nation. How did that work out for → you? ← Trump's polarizing nature continues to be a major hurdle. While he has an enthusiastic and loyal base, he remains deeply unpopular with key demographic groups, including suburban women, younger voters, and minorities. His rhetoric and approach have alienated many independent voters who were critical in the 2020 election. As the Republican nominee, many of these voters could once again opt for the Democratic candidate, creating significant obstacles to winning critical swing states. Trump has alienated segments of the Republican Party with his combative style, particularly after the January 6th Capitol insurrection. Some moderate Republicans and establishment figures have voiced concerns about his ability to win in the general election and have pushed for a more electable candidate. The party's internal divisions, especially in key states, could affect voter turnout and unity, which would undermine Trump's chances in the primaries and beyond. Fight! Fight! Fight!A major turning point for the Trump campaign and the beginning of "The Red Wave" happens when an assination attempt was made by a shooter on Trump, during a live television rally on July 13th, 2024, in Butler Pennsylvania. The assination attemp resulted in the loss of life to a → Firefighter ← and caused serious injuries to two → others ←  in the crowd. Trump was shot in the ear and while bleeding profusely and covered by USSS agents, rose to his feet and with clinched fist, shouted "FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!" before being safely taken away and secured by United States Secret Service Agents ... and so it begins. Early Campaign IssuesIn the early stages of the 2024 campaign, Trump had a few notable moments that helped bolster his position, especially within the Republican Party. Here is how he became a strong contender for the GOP nomination, despite the legal challenges and controversies that surrounded him. Trump maintained strong polling among Republican voters. Trump enjoyed media dominance (but not all favorable) during Kamala's lack of public appeances and interviews. His legal battles become a source of strength for him. His supporters viewed the charges as politically motivated attacks reinforcing their loyalty to him. Trump’s ability to mobilize large crowds at rallies, was a testament to his grassroots appeal with working-class voters.   Swipe → → for previous page.

My Perspective On The Most Significant Election Event In Americas History TIM WALZ Personal LifeWalz was sworn in as Governor on January 7, 2019. He immediately began focusing on his priorities, which included improving education, expanding access to healthcare, addressing climate change, and strengthening the state's economy. Walz is married to Gwen Walz, an educator, and they have two children. His family has been central to his political career, and he often emphasizes his connection to everyday Minnesotans. As governor, Walz prioritized addressing climate change, setting ambitious goals for reducing carbon emissions and investing in renewable energy. He has also focused on preserving Minnesota’s natural resources and protecting its outdoor spaces. Throughout his political career, Walz has emphasized education and healthcare reform. He worked to expand access to healthcare through the state’s insurance marketplace and supported increased funding for public education. Covid-19 PandemicWalz’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic was one of the defining aspects of his first term. As the virus spread across the nation, Walz implemented measures, including stay-at-home orders, mask mandates, and school closures, to limit the spread of COVID-19 in Minnesota. His handling of the pandemic was widely discussed and polarized public opinion, with some applauding his efforts to prioritize public health, while others criticized the economic and social impacts of his decesions.

The LegacyWalz has often been described as a pragmatic and moderate Democrat. His appeal spans both urban and rural voters, and he has worked to navigate Minnesota's often polarized political landscape. He is known for seeking bipartisan solutions on key issues, particularly on matters like veterans' affairs and agriculture. Walz has prioritized addressing climate change for reducing carbon emissions and investing in renewable energy. He has also focused on preserving Minnesota’s natural resources. Walk BacksIn summary, Walz's campaign featured several instances where he adjusted his positions to balance the progressive elements of his base with the more moderate and conservative factions of the electorate. These walk-backs were often in response to evolving political dynamics or shifting public opinion, particularly on issues like Vaccine Mandates, Abortion Access, Tax Policy, Public Safety, National Guard/Military History, Defunding the Police, → School Mask Mandates. ←  ConclusionTim Walz’s career has been marked by a strong commitment to public service, education, and veterans' affairs. His journey from high school teacher to U.S. Congressman to Governor of Minnesota reflects his dedication and his desire to make a positive impact in both local and national politics. As Governor, he has faced significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and racial justice issues, and his pragmatic, moderate approach has helped him build a broad coalition of support.   Swipe ← ← to continue reading.

My Perspective On The Most Significant Election Event In Americas History JD VANCE In Trumps ShadowA former Trump critic who famously wrote Hillbilly Elegy and initially distanced himself from Trump, faced challenges in fully embracing Trump without alienating moderates or independents. During his 2024 rallies, Vance had to balance his support for Trump’s policies and candidacy with the need to maintain a broad coalition of voters. While he clearly leaned into the Trump wing of the Republican Party, some Ohioans and centrist Republicans still had reservations about his earlier criticisms of Trump, creating a potential voter trust gap. Vance's struggle was to present himself as a staunch conservative ally of Trump while also trying to carve out a distinct political identity. This was particularly tricky as he did not have the same **charisma or political gravitas** as Trump, which could leave him vulnerable to being seen as overly reliant on Trump’s endorsement rather than offering his own vision for Ohio and the country. The DivisionsVance faced the task of appealing to both urban liberals and rural conservatives, two groups that are often at odds in Ohio. While his rural base, particularly in the Appalachian parts of Ohio, resonated with his anti-establishment rhetoric and working-class conservatism, he had a tougher time winning over more urban, diverse voters who were skeptical of his hard-right stances on issues like immigration, abortion, and healthcare. One key challenge was reaching out to suburban women and swing voters, a demographic that had moved away from Trump in 2020. Vance’s positions on social issues like abortion and guns might have been problematic for these voters. At his rallies, he had to walk a fine line in making sure he didn't alienate these important groups while still staying true to his base. Vance, a staunch anti-abortion advocate, had to navigate the tricky terrain of discussing abortion bans in a state that had seen an increasingly polarized public reaction to the issue. This was especially important in Ohio's suburban districts, where abortion rights could be a significant motivating factor for voters. In 2023, Ohio voters rejected a measure that would have made it more difficult to amend the state constitution, which was viewed as a tactic to block abortion rights. This vote was a direct challenge to Republican positions on abortion. During his rallies, Vance had to defend his stance against those pushing for abortion rights without further inflaming tensions within his state’s electorate. ConclusionJ.D. Vance faced several challenges during his 2024 rallies as he sought to consolidate his position within the Republican Party while appealing to a broader electorate. His alignment with Trump’s populist agenda, combined with his need to appeal to both Ohio’s working class and more moderate voters, presented significant hurdles. Issues like the abortion debate, Trump’s legal battles, and Ohio’s economic concerns were key challenges that required careful navigation as he campaigned in 2024.   Swipe → → for previous page.

My Perspective On The Most Significant Election Event In Americas History FUTURE CHALLENGESTrump’s first presidency was marked by significant political polarization, and his second term will likely amplify this divide. While his base is deeply loyal, the rest of the country remains deeply divided in terms of political ideology. Efforts to unify the nation will be complicated by the entrenched culture wars, particularly around issues like immigration, race, abortion, and LGBTQ rights. While Trump has solidified strong support among a segment of the GOP, there are factions within the party (e.g., establishment Republicans, libertarians, or more moderate conservatives) who are wary of his approach. Ensuring party unity and avoiding fractures will be a challenge for both he and Vance, especially if Trump attempts to push forward divisive policies. With the Senate under Republican control the dynamics could still lead to legislative challenges. In Congress, getting major legislation passed will require navigating disagreements within the party, especially on budgetary issues, defense spending, and tax policy. Trump may face resistance from establishment Republicans or more moderate members of his party. Vance’s influence will be crucial in determining the GOP’s legislative priorities. While Vance is likely to support some of Trump’s policies, disagreements on specific issues, such as foreign policy or domestic spending priorities, could create tensions. Vance's political strategy could also be more moderate compared to Trump’s populist approach, further complicating efforts to pass major initiatives. AgendasTrump’s "America First" approach is at odds with traditional alliances, particularly NATO and the European Union. Navigating foreign policy challenges such as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, tensions with China, North Korea and the Middle East could strain relationships with other global leaders. Trump’s previous foreign policy decisions such as withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement and the Iran Nuclear Deal left lasting impacts, and reversing or modifying his decisions in his second term will require some significant diplomacy. Trade tensions with China were a hallmark of Trump’s first term, and this issue is unlikely to disappear during this term and may be come more restrictive. Managing the complex relationship with China, balancing trade, technology competition, and national security might be one of Trump’s most significant foreign policy challenges. Additionally, Trump and his administration will have to deal with inherited wars and human rights issues with Isreal, Palestine, Ukraine, Russia, Iran and North Korea, which the current administration seems to be unable to deminish in intensity, or find a resolve. And lets not forget about Making America Great Again. ConclusionTogether, Trump and Vance will likely push the nationalist, populist agenda that emphasizes American sovereignty, economic nationalism, and social conservatism, while prioritizing the concerns of the working class and rural communities. Protecting American interests abroad and opposing globalist agendas. Advocate for stricter regulation on Big Tech companies, particularly regarding free speech, censorship, and data privacy. Support policies that reduce the offshoring of American jobs and encourage domestic industry.   Swipe ← ← to continue reading.
